Millwall boss on how his side ‘stay in the mix’ ahead of Fulham clash
Millwall’s play-off ambitions have been halted by their run of just one win in the last five matches.
Gary Rowett’s side host Fulham this evening looking to win for the first time this month. Their recent run has seen them slip five points behind sixth-placed Preston – a position Millwall held on New Years Day.
Speaking to NewsAtDen the Millwall manager said “I think what we have to remember is we’ve worked incredibly hard to get up there. We’ve worked so hard to get in the mix and we want to stay in the mix, simple as that.
“There’s no God-given right to be up there. I look at the last seven games and we’ve got a better record than West Brom and Leeds. Leeds lost four out five, West Brom had won one in six before they played us.
“We’re really disappointed with two defeats against the top two sides. I think we just have to be logical about it. We’ve faced a difficult run of games and we’ve got to come out of that with a decent points tally and stay in the mix. That’s what the Championship dictates and that’s what we’ve got to do.”
Fulham arrive in SE16 tonight with plenty of motivation themselves. A win for Scott Parker’s side will see them move up into the automatic promotion places after Leeds and Brentford both drew last night. The Whites have won the last three meetings between the sides including the 4-0 in August.
