Millwall are to place their entire playing staff on furlough.
The club are currently finalising plans that will see the playing and management teams placed on the government scheme. They will be the first Championship side to place their entire playing staff on the scheme.
Non playing staff have already been placed on the scheme with the club confirming they will cover the shortfall ensuring that staff receive 100% of their wages while the UK continues to suffer with the outbreak of Coronavirus.
The EFL have confirmed that the league will be suspended until “it’s safe to resume.” It is not known when a return date will be announced by the competition with the UK currently on lockdown. Those measures are due to be reviewed on Easter Monday but the restrictions are likely to remain in place until the country is past the Coronavirus peak which has so far claimed the lives of over 6,000 people.
Along with the non-playing staff, Millwall will cover the shortfall for the players and management staff’s wages ensuring that everyone at the club will still receive their full wages while football is suspended.
A club spokesperson told NewsAtDen last week “It’s another important measure to protect the club in the short term. It is important to remember any individual is only covered up to £2,500 per month, not a percentage of wage.”
